What do you need to buy a rifle in NYS ? Lets say a 30-30 Winchester for instance..
1) Just standard backgroundcheck ?
2) Hunting license and background check ?

  Are post ban high cap pistol mags OK for your state ? Can you order them from an out of state person or business and have them sent in ?

  Just a backround check if you buy from a dealer, nothing if you buy face to face, although seller should require photo ID

  On a Fed level FTF sales are only ok in your own state w/ a resident of your own state... original question asked about buying in NYS

  Private party sales- ONLY in your state of residence from another resident. Buying from a FFL in another state, you can buy a long gun, no handguns. Regular purchase procedure is followed by dealer- IDs, 4473, background check. Title 18, US Code, Section 922.
