Old fart question.
Loading a Glock 23 in 40 caliber I barely got 3 rounds in the magazine. Stiff spring or old fingers?

Probably a little bit of both. [;)] Get your self a speed loader, much kinder to your fingers!

If bought new, it should have come with one of those.
For serious loading, look up the UpLula mechanical magazine loading aid.

All of the above. [:p]
When I load these, I usually put the base of the cartridge onto the magazine follower then push down with BOTH thumbs, one on top of the other. I find that helps a lot with stiff magazines.
Yeah, you could also use a magazine loader. They're cheap.
And that last round that never seems to want to go in there. . .I just don't bother. If I can "only" get 12 instead of 13 (or 15 instead of 16, etc), I'm still happy.0 -
At age 76, I was having problems loading mags also. I couldn't get over 10 rounds in a 15 round 10mm Glock mag. The MagLula loader that Hawk mentioned is THE greatest shooting accessory ever in my opinion. It will load to capacity nearly any pistol mag regardless of make or caliber. I've got one at home and one in my range bag and LOVE'M.

That original Glock mag loader is a clumsy piece of junk though it does work. With arthritis weakened fingers it's a PITA.
The Lula loaders for pistol and AR15 on the other hand do work well but cost about $30.
There may be better loaders but Glock's is the worst.0 -
stiff springs for sure. old fingers? i dont know you, but if the idea is in your mind then i guess its probably applicable.
if you're not in a hurry and want to use the facotry loader, try this:
put the mag on a table/counter etc.
slip the loader on the mag.
press down on the top with your palm to lower the follower/last round.
slip in the next round.
reset.
repeat as necessary.
what you're doing is going from fine motor muscles in the hand/finger to gross motor muscles in the arm.0 -
Yes, the Glock loader works and has worked since 1987 when I bought it but having seen the Lula loader there's no contest.
It has no mechanical advantage lever system like other loaders.0 -
I carry a Glock 19 probably 75 percent of the time, I am off duty. I download one round in all my mags. Something I picked up in the military. It does seem to help with spring tension in the long run. The Lula is the only loader that actually made sense to me. I have used it, dont own one but did like it.
Good luck0
