    I believe he was in the Millbrook, NY area in the '60s

    thank you both for your response and I am sure now that my rifle came from the same John Dewey. Im sorry to hear that he passed on but his workmanship for a 60s gunsmith is superb. the article mentions he worked with a stock maker named Russ Carpenter. I wonder if anyone knows if hes around still.

    I tried looking him up in a few old Gun Digests without success.
    I know he operated out of either Millbrook, Cold Spring or near by in NY and was in a partnership
    & Dewey but I forget the partner's name.
