Ithaca Lefever Nitro Special

I recently bought an Ithaca Lefever Nitro Special in 12 gauge, it was advertised as open choke, but it really is Full and Modified. The serial number is the the 35k range. The color case is still spot on, with the barrel having some surface rust. Does anyone know much about these shotguns. I have a Ithaca Flues 20 gauge that I use for quail hunting and was hoping to use this gun during those late winter windy days. I know the Flues is desirable, but not so sure about the Nitro Special. Any information on this gun, I would really appreciate.

Post the serial number (you can put XX for the last couple of numbers if you want) and I can give you the DOM. They were made from 1921-1948. Nitro specials in the small gauges command pretty good money. The bigger gauges 12 & 16 although built well are usually a fair amount less. Is your a single trigger or double? 0 -
The serial number is 357338. It is on the foreend, barrells and breech assembly. It is double trigger. It is a heavy shotgun, built and locks up like a tank. It has the original wood and checkering is still good, foreend is wore more than the stock and the stock is still quite proud around the rear of the breech where it all comes together. I don't know much about this line of Ithaca, and any information is welcome. I wanted an open choked gun, the seller said it was opened choked but was mistaken. I like it to much to fuss with them about it. Honest mistake in my opinion. Here is the auction:

The Nitro Special was the last poduction model and is very "low end". The Flues are also over-rated.
If you just want a hunting gun, you would be better off with a double like the Stevens 311.
It appears that side-by-side guns are making a comeback. There are numerous brands listed in my wholsale catalogs that are in the economy price range.0 -
It looks to be in nice shape! My information shows that your Lefever was made in the early part of 1947! Not bad at all for a almost 65 year old gun. 0 -

It is in good shape, just wish it was a Improved cylinder/Modified,lol. My gunsmith can rechoke it, just not sure its worth the money. Thanks for your information. What does grade A mean, when it comes to this shotgun?0
