7.65 Mystery
I've got a semi-auto pistol that my uncle brought back after WWII that has CAL 7.65 stamped on the left side of the slide and 433996 and a spread eagle w/N below it on the top/rear of the frame. No other markings. Dead Kraut had put clear plastic grips on it making it more difficult to identify. How do I research such a gun?

That said, I'd bet a penny that it is a Walther of some type...0 -

Research cannot be done until the pistol has been identified and so far you ahve given us nothing to go on. Imagine this: "My uncle left me a car. It has a six cylinder engine but the previous owner removed all of the badges. How do I research this car"?0 -
You got the photos......we got the answers. But without the photos can do little as it could just about anything (Mauser/Walther/Sauer....on and on and on). Need those photos and we can help you with your research. The eagle over N are the German commercial proof marks. 0 -

Sorry guys. I was afraid of this. MAYBE, my son will teach me how to download my camera and then I can figure out how to post the pix. 'cause I've got three of his BringBacks I would like to know more about, besides his USMC .38 revolver w/lanyard ring. They evidently meant a lot to him since he specified that they go to me.
He taught me to hunt, as a little boy, with his single-shot .22. We hunted rabbit for food so I was taught no head shot, no shot.0 -

Most likely SkyKing nailed it for you.
The grips are quite fragile it's common to find them broken or missing. Repos are available on-line but they aren't the best quality, ( I just bought a pair awhile back).0 -
Sometimes those clear grips were made from airplane canopies. Can't really tell without pictures, but it's a possibility. It wasn't uncommon. It certainly makes it more interesting.

It sounds like its gonna be a Czech made CZ27 to Me but made under German occupation 0 -
It could be jsut about anything and we could go on guessing for days. Until we see at least one photo to ID the pistol there is nothing more that can be accomplished here. 0
