Anyone have any true experience with the Heckler and Koch .45?

Accurate? Reliable? etc...

  I have a USP 45. The grip is a bit large, but it has been reliable and accurate. The HK45 looks even better because of its adjustable grip, though it holds two fewer rounds.

  I carried a USP .45 for years at work, I hated the gun, even tho I bought it when we switched to the Smith M&P .45. It always went bang, and I never doubted that it would, my problem was the grip and that I could not consistantly hit center mass with the gun. The trigger felt like an old barn door spring it was so heavy, I was not allowed to adjust it. I had to shoot at the upper right shoulder at 25 yards. I know this had more to do with my hand size than the firearm. I fired one round at a bank robber with it, and I can say with shame " I shot a bank." I did get the robber.

  I carried a full size USP as my duty (uniform) pistol for several years and never felt I was at any disadvantage. I also carried a USP Compact .45 ACP as my duty pistol in plainclothes. Both were reliable and accurate, we used Federal 230 Hydra-Shok and never had a feed problem. The only gripe I had was the proprietary rail system that required an adaptor to use any light other than an H&K. The grip is big, but I didn't find it as bulky feeling as the Glock 21. It also pointed better and more quickly for me than the Glock.
  
  Edit1: The rail is set up to mount the light by rocking it onto the rails fron the side and then sliding a locking plate down. It doesn't have the groove for the cross-bolt like a 1913 rail.

  Interesting that the rail is a off size...Proprietary dimension.
  
  Can it be modified without a adapter? Is it bigger or smaller then the standard rail.

  I dont think a normal person can modify the rail. You can buy an adapter, it just makes it harder to fit a holster. Insight lights which use a clamping method do work on the rail, its just not your normal slide on slide of type of rail. We did see severe wear on our rails when using the HK light.
