Changing springs on a 1911 cause problems?

WOW, I changed the recoil spring on my wad cutter 1911 45. The bullet impact went from dead center 10 ring with the old spring, to missing the 5 ring at 12:00 High at 50 FEET.

Would changing a recoil spring normally cause that much impact change?

I changed the spring because it has a lot of rounds on it. How often do you change springs?

  The need to change recoil springs is a MYTH IFyou have a quality spring. The spring on my Wad Gun has been in the pistol from when I first mounted a Red DOT 200,000 + rounds No recoil buffers ETC. No wizz bang parts . Just match the spring to the load and shooter.If spring is too week gun will unlock BEFORE the bullet leaves the barrel back of barrel goes Down to unlock Bullet goes up. Of course if you need weeeaaak spring because you limp wrist the pistol you might want to BULK up like I did years ago. LOL[;)]

  Thanks Perry Shooter! The unlocking the barrel thing sounds about right. I put the original spring back in and every thing is now hunky-Dory.
  
  Maybe one day I too can have a tooth pick skinny arm made of steel to hold my 45! [;)][:D]
