One more Japanese rifle question
One more inquiry onto the Japanese I'd accumulated, and, another chance to show off my newly acquired, grand-kid given ability to post pics.
This one-screw swivel thingy, on a wood butt plt. "last ditch" 7.7 rifle. The well familiar people might just deem it commom knowledge, but, I've never seen it. Any oddity to it,...why not a normal 2 screws, given the importance of sling support?

I'm no expert but I'm thinking that the rifle wasn't born with that swivel. Nice pic by the way, one of these days I figure it out too.
So I'm thinking that one screw is 50% less material and time to make than two screws. Might be important with B-29's overhead and as a last ditch item how durable does the item need to be? And yes clearly not an expert.0 -

It's perfectly normal for LD production. Exact config depends upon maker, subs, etc. The next (downgrade) step here was called the 'Rope Hole' "sling arrangement". It's almost comical in appearance, but quite rare.0 -
One the things that make the Japanese T-99 so interesting is all the variations as the overall quality diminished. Beginning with a fairly high quality (altho utilitarian) rifle. And ending w/a rifle of questionable safety to fire.
I have seen house guest, who made the unfortunate request to view my collection, eyes roll in theirs heads. As I pointed out the differences in to the untrained eye, seemingly identical rifles.
