Old Winchester Help Please

Hello Ya'll I picked up a 1892 Winchester in 44-40 Serial no 579350 WHICH PUTS IT ABOUT 1909- 1910 I believe, can i shoot modern loads in this gun? Not hot loads but factory ammo?

  I think you are fine.
  
  I fired one box of factory in mine, ca 1911, when I could not find brass. And have shot a bunch of factory equivalent handoads with no problems. The previous owner shot stuff in this and other 1892s that would make an Internet Ammunition Expert faint dead away.
  They are strong actions and factory ammunition is mild to protect the 73s.

  December 1910 to be precise on the DOM.
  
  As Hawk Carse alluded to, the Model 1892 action is considerably stronger than needed for any of the modern factory ammo you can buy today. Winchester specifically developed the "W.H.V." load for it back in the early part of the 20th century.
  
  I know of several instances where original Model 1892s have been rebarreled and chambered for the .44 Magnum cartridge, and after several thousand rounds, they are in perfect shooting condition. If you reload, you can bump up the 44 WCF load considerably from factory specs.
