There is no problem. Been using one on my Marlin 336 for years. I consider it a necessity in cold weather with gloves on to safely manipulate the hammer.

High mount (see-through) the scope and it is not needed. Most people don't like the see-through mounts.

If you mount the scope low, you almost have to use the extension. Especially, as the other poster said, when you wear gloves.

I also have been using them forever. Just remember to keep checking so that it doesnt loosen up. I used loctite on mine. They work well.

i have a 30AS with high mounts (see thru) and i love them other than cheek placement is a weird but once you do you will love them, and plenty of room for ext. hammer

I've been using them on my 336 and 1894P for several years and they provide a much more secure thumb purchase, especially with gloves, as mentioned.

I have to agree with oneoldsap. What is the most useless thing in this world?

using see thru mounts makes using a scope very inaccurate, and is for wannabe hunters

Been hunting with 30-30 336 for 16 yrs w/see-thru mounts & accuracy has never been a problem. 1" groups at 75 yds with my 180 gr. RN loads meets my needs. Hammer extension very handy also, use it all the time.
