HAND GUN POWDER

I have probably asked this before but I want to load, 44 mag, 44 special, 357 mag 38 special and 9MM using only one powder. Problem is I want the cleanest burning powder a person can buy. What do I use? I have been using Red Dot and It's almost like using mud. Any answers?

    Go to the reloading forum and post your question, there are folks lurking about in there that'll set you on the correct path right away.

    I've had good luck with the Accurate Arms ball powders. They run through the powder measure like water, and burn clean as long as the bullet is well crimped in the case. I would recommend AA 5 as long as your not trying for magnum loads.

    Now, Unique is known to burn cleaner with a real 'tight' crimp*, most problems with Unique firing dirty is a [relatively] loose bullet.

    You will not get normal performance out of both Specials and Magnums with the same powder. Either the Magnums will be loaded down with what is really a Special powder, or the Specials will be dirty and erratic with the slow burning powder necessary for full Magnum Power.

    Now, which sort of inefficiency do you want?

    Well, let's think about this..assuming the OP wants to use pistols/revolvers, and I'm eliminating those 'Buffalo Bore' super turbocharged loads, and also loads above 240gr.

    So, in a revolver, up to and including revolvers with the capabilities of a S&W M29 with a 1/20 twist, and 6 1/2in barrel, I can, with a 240gr. jacketed bullet, loading .44 Magnum, go from 800 fps with 8.0gr Unique, to 1250 fps with 14.0gr Unique.

    In .44 spl. I can, with a 250gr. cast w/gas check, go from 5.0gr Unique (650 FPS) to 8.0gr Unique which will yield just shy of 1,000 FPS.

    If the OP is thinking versatility, he should garner both your and my post, and decide for himself. He'll have to get back to you, though, in order to ask you about what numbers go with what powders you are referring to. I've already given mine..at least for the .44.

    Hodgdon Titegroup will do great. It is however only for target velocities. Burns clean, isn't position sensitive and is cheap.

    Well, the hotshooters load mostly H110 for top velocity.
    I have always loaded IMR4227 for best accuracy in MY .44 and accepted lower velocity than H110 or even 2400 and more powder consumption than Unique.

    I have to go along with givette on unique,I also load it in all my old hammer shotguns 2in 410 thru 10ga.tks hedge[:D]
