20 Gauge slug
Can anyone tell me the actual diameter of a 20 gauge slug and also the the inside diameter at the muzzle of a 20 gauge with a full choke?
I have a H&R 24 gauge that was drilled/resized at the breech about 60 years ago to fire a 20 gauge shell.It has a 24 inch barrel so I guess that was cut back to eliminate the full choke. This gun has seen lots of use and it`s a deadly little rabbit gun. It has a little extra kick because of the smaller barrel. It measures .567 inches internal diameter at the muzzle, I`m just wondering if there is a slug I could use in it.

I would stick to using that little darlin for rabbits and pick up another single shot for slugs. Many guns around for $50 to $75 dollars that will not blow up when shooting a slug down a tight barrel.

See what Floyd said. Even if you spend $200 on some type of shotgun, it will still be far less than the medical bills you will pay for having a gun blow up. 0 -
I think these guys gave you good advice. H&R were good, ie the best of the cheapie's, too bad its not origonal it would be worth more. If you reload for it or know someone that can I would bet that something can be made to work. Pumpkin ball loads could be made up from stock 54 cal muzzle loader round balls. You might be able to use the lyman 20 ga sabot slug as it undersized to fit inside a plastic wad. When that "little extra kick" causes the firearm to fail you will not be a happy hunter. I'd strongly urge you buy a newer H&R, NEI or whoever they are these days in a 20 3 inch with screw in chokes. 0 -
We have a H&R 20 gauge rifled barrel slug gun that shoots Federal sabot slugs like it really is a rifle. No need to be messing with something that might hurt you when $200-250 will get the job doen so much better. 0 -
