Do they make a 762x39 AR-15 upper?
If so, does this fit the 223 AR-15 lower?

Yes they do but I have heard that there is a problem with getting the 7.62 rounds to feed reliably.

Yes 7.62x39 uppers for standard AR-15 lowers are available.
Several makers offer them and they run about $500-550.0 -
My understanding is that the 7.62 X 39 cartridge has enough taper from the base to the projectile to cause feeding problems in the standard magazines use by AR's. This would stand to reason in light of the normal "banana" shaped mags used in the AK's. If a reduced number of 7.62 X 39 rounds are loaded in AR mags, supposedly they work most of the time. 0 -
Yes, the 7.62x39 uppers fit the AR 15 lower. The 7.62x39 runs fine in the AR if the correct mags are used. You can use standard 223 mags by loading 2 or 3 rounds but more will usually cause a failure. Correct 7.62 mags are available but at a higher cost than standard mags(they use a different follower than 5.45 and don't work with those mags either). 0 -
Corrosive military ammo blowing into the action doesn't sound good. 0 -
With the amount of noncorrosive ammo on the market, the use of corrosive primed surplus is almost counter productive. Many who have used the "slightly corrosive" 5.45x39 ammo find little or no problems if the upper is thoroughly flushed with hot water. I have no idea of the corrosive properties of the really cheap 7.62 surplus ammo but if you're in a position to clean your AR promptly, you might find it cost effective.
I don't own the alternative caliber AR uppers for the primary purpose of saving money on ammo although it sure is nice to lay in 2160 rounds in airtight storage for $200. My purpose is a varied supply of ammo in case someone decides to outlaw the current military caliber or some such tactic.0 -
I own a Colt 7.62x39 upper and its great. Much more accurate than my AK47. My information is dated but only one magazine works well and its made by USA mags. It looks like a AR15 top with a AK47 mag welded to it. 0 -
I have several C-Products mags which seem to work well. I sold my USA "frankenmags" a couple of years ago and bought current production C-P mags. 0 -
Standard AR15 uppers work for 7.62x39, just not the mags
I built an AR15 in 7.62x39 last year using the following:
Delaware Machinery lower
DPMS LPK
Standard RRA upper
Model One sales barrrel and bolt
UTG collapsible stock
UTG handguards
Red Dot sight
All totaled, I don't think I have more than $600 in the thing, before the C-Products mags (which work well by the way).
It may be a mongrel, but it chews up whatever you feed it without a hiccup, and it's much more accurate at distance than my SKS.0 -
Model 1 Sales kit, Surplus Arms & Ammo Receiver, C_Products mags
I had to do a bit of tweaking on the bolt but it's 100% even with Wolf ammo
