Book on proofmarks?
Title says it all, anyone know of a good one? Online sources are fine, when you can get online. I also just plain like books. TIA

One book, you might consider, is "The Standard Directory of Proof Marks" by Gerhard Wirnsberger. 0 -
Another one is the "Official Guide To Gunmarks" Third Edition by Robert H, Balderson published by the House of Collectibles, The Crown Publishing Group, New York, New York. There may be later editions. 0 -
The best source that I know of is the gun digest treasury. "the best from the first 15 years of gun Digest". This was published in 1961 and has the Engelhardt articles.
Another good one is proof test & proof marks by Lieut. Col. Goddard 1946. This one also covers the proof system by different companies in America.
if your interest is English proofs get a copy of notes on the proof of shotguns and other small arms by the Birmingham proof house.0 -
There are some good books on LUger Proof marks both Lugers at Random amd those by Jon Stiles. 0 -
Thanks to all. I called a used book store that my brother goes to and got The Guide to Gunmarks second edition. The Standard Directory is available at Amazon and is on my wish list. After I get a few paychecks ahead I'll find the others and maybe more.
Not knowing the proofs on the liberty revolver thread reminded me that I needed books on the subject.0
