Encore Barrel Rechambering
I picked up a T/C Encore barrel in 222 Remington for a good price and have since replaced it with a bull barrel type. Instead of selling the original sporter profile 222 barrel I'm thinking of rechambering - not sure what I want to do other than of course keep the .224 bore. Other than the 22-250 & 223, which I already have, any suggestions on which chambering to get? Given the original chambering do certain rechamberings work better than others? On the fast end I was considering the 220 Swift or 225 Winchester and on the other end 22 HiPower or 221 Fireball. If the 221 Fireball I would also probably shorten the barrel and make for a nifty little carbine.
I reload, so am open to literally anything so long as getting or forming brass isn't too much of a pain - I don't want to go through 3 neck sizings and a fireforming but short of that am flexible.
I don't want to convert it to a pistol length, have tons of those already.
Also, what's a fair price for having the rechambering done on this type of firearm?

22 HiPower is .228. I don't think the shorter 221 Fireball will work either. Maybe a 30-30 based wildcat like a 219 D Wasp. The Swift would be good. 0 -

Oops - the HiPower would be a problem. Hadn't considered the 219 DW. EA Brown sells the brass and it doesn't seem like too much of a pain to form if they're out. But I'm wondering what the DW would do that, say a 225 Winchester or 219 Zipper would not do as well.0 -

How about the 222 Remington Magnum? If you want something not commonly available. I do believe that is a custom shop barrel you are about to carve on though. Just keep that in mind, along that you cannot go with a shorter cartridge, as the barrel mounting block would then have to be cut off, and re-welded.

Hey, if you really want to have a tack driving barrel rechamber it to 22BR. I rechambered an ENCORE 22 hornet to 22 BR with great success. It shoots 52 Grain Berger FB bullets into one little hole at 3,600 FPS. I can coax it to 4,020 FPS using 40 NBT's. Brass is formed from the Lapua 6 BR brass by just passing it through the sizing die.
One cool thing is if you have a 6 BR Redding S neck die you can still use it for the 22 BR by buying the bushings to fit.0 -

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you need a chambering that will 'clean-up' a .222 chamber. .22 br will not do it. the others might. 0 -

The 22BR is shorter than the 222 Remington, so I can't take that route. Whatever I switch to has to be "wider & longer" than the original chambering - 222 case is 1.70 and .376" wide at the base, .357" at the shoulder. The 222 RM would be an easy choice and I do have the brass (rework it for a 6X47/222RM barrel) but to me that's not much of a change and not different than my 223 barrel.
The barrel in question is a Bergara, got it for $125.00 - so I don't have much invested. It shoots great as is, under 1" @ 100 yds all day, but I'd like to go with something different that's either a fast as heck screamer or an accurate as heck but modest fps chambering.

Contact www.eabco.com and ask what you can rechamber to.
Check the twist to see what it is. If it is a slow-1/14- you will need to stick with lighter bullets.0
