Dan Wesson

Looking on the auction side at the Dan Wesson model 15. There is the model 15, 15-2, 15V, 15HV etc.
Understanding that on some models, different barrel lengths can be easily changed with the company tool. Was wondering the compatibility of the barrels on this model? Will a model 15 barrel work on a model 15-2, and others?
I have been a pistol guy for 20 years and thought I would give the revolver a try and like the looks of the older Dan Wessons.

    My buddy had a pistol pack and when barrel was changed, proper adjustment required, gun shot like a true winner. Surprised to hear Company is out of business. As I remember, guns were of excellent quality and fit.

    You will be seeing one on GB soon as I am doing some stuff for him and old Dan is going to be put up for some serious consideration by someone online.

    I know that the V and VH designators have to do with the barrel shrouds (V = Vent rib, VH Vent rib Heavy aka: full lug). I am not up on the changes like 15, 15-2 etc, a more learned member should have the info.

    I do know that for same model numbers (15-2 for example) the plain (unribbed), vent and vent-heavy shrouds can be used on the same length barrel (4" for example, I have a P, V and VH shroud for the 4" tube, all fit fine) try this for some more info: http://www.notpurfect.com/main/dwrev.htm

    Looking at the shoud list, the non vented one I have is called a "Standard", not a "Plain" shroud.. my oops.

    I've had a few over the years. They are well made and very accurate guns. DW ownership changed a few times, the guns made in Monson, MA are generally of best consistent quality. DW frames have a habit of tinting burgundy after a few years. They are fine to shoot, some like the look and some do not - I don't.

    The best shooter, I think, is the 8" vented non-lugged version. It has a great balance when held off hand. I have an 8" nickel Python Target bought about 1980 in 38 Special and the DW always beat it.

    The frame for each individual caliber is the same, and they just have different barrel shrouds. It is like you can choose Alacarte' what barrel you want to change it to today from yesterday, or tomorrow. Check out some of the PISTOL PAC's they have on the auction side.

    As Doug Fletcher has stated, they are all very well made, and very accurate revolver's. In the IMSHA revolver class, these revolvers ruled the roost. The early ones(Monson) are saught after, and they were made in various chamberings, and like the S&W, and Colt's, they have different frame sizes for different chamberings. I would not hesitate to grab one at all. As a side note, they did make some fixed barrel models too.

    I've had my DW 357 pistol pac since the mid '70,s. They are very accurate. Liked so well, I got a DW 22 with 6+8" bbls. Added the 4+2 1/2" to it later. Hunted with a DW 44mag with the DW porting.
    The older model 14,s had whats called a "pork chop" shroud and the won't fit the 15 series.
    Get one, you won't be disapointed [^]

    Close on the MDL 14 verses the mdl 15. THe difference between the 14 and the 15 is that the 15 had adjustable rear sights where the mdl 14 was fixed sights.

    THe difference between the model 15 verses the model 15-2 is that the 15 has the pork chop shroud and the 15-2 does not. The pork chop shrouds are nearly impossible to find at a decent price. the 15-2 shrouds are more common and are still made to this day by CZ (the Current owner of Dan Wesson Arms) and EWK arms that makes a VERY heavy shroud model.
    On a side note the Dan Wessons are extremely tough guns and you really have to work to blow one up since the "small frame" that the 357 and 22lr are made on is the same size as a S&W 44mag Frame.
