rimfire & bowling pins
So... my local "fun match" for december has been announced... bowling pins at 25 yards (rimfire pistol) and 50 yards (rimfire rifle).
Will sub sonic ammo knock these over ? I have a bunch of it since it is the most accurate in my 22 rifle, so I use it in both the rifle and in my Ruger Mk II...
Or do I need to give up some accuracy and re-sight in the rifle with either Fed AutoMatch or CCI Mini Mags?

Bowling pins are covered in a thick layer of plastic which may or may not allow slow-moving rounds from a .22 to penetrate.
I'd be more than cautious when firing at any rounded surface with a .22; especially when only 25 feet away.
Of course, you could "peel" the pins, and then you'd be shooting at laminated Oak/Hickory.
Try this; hang a few eggs out at 25 yards from a bit of fishing line using duct tape to hold them on the line. If you tarp the area beforehand; all you need for clean-up is a carwash or a hose.
We (my silo club) used this technique to raise money for more targets; .25 a shot, shoot till you're tired.0 -
We've done it at 15 yards w/ no issues... I'm not worried about ricochets, but rather whether that little 38 grain hp moving at 1000 fps out of the barrel will knock over a bowling pin at 50 yards ... 0 -
CCI Stingers is the only .22 ammo I trust. 0 -
.22lr will knock a bowling pin over at 50 yrds. We did that at a shoot on Memorial weekend. 0 -

If I thought I'd need it I could step up to 22wmr ... or talk 'em into doing a CF match instead and using my FN-FAL :00 -
After watching some pin matches, at times it seems not even a 45ACP will take one down and off the table. 0 -

We outlawed .45 ball ammo about 25-30 years ago at pin matches. To many ricochets.0 -

Don't know if it was ball ammo, just know they were shooting 1911's in 45ACP.
In any event, it has a lot more energy than a 22LR.0
