scope mounting on a rossi
my grandson has a 243 rossi single shot what kind of scope and mounts would you folks reccomend i had rings and mounts for a remington 700 but no way will they work thanks for your info n help jb

Weaver should make a mount for your Rossi, if not then a competent Gun Smith should be able to set you up with something that will work... The rings will fit them all if they are the Weaver style... 0 -
I'm not sure what model Rossi you have, but if you tell me, I will tell you what exact mount and rings to get. For the scope, It should be a Burris FullField II, 3-9x40 with the Ballistic Plex, or just Plex reticle. It is the BEST scope for the BEST price you can find, for what you are going to use it for. The rings will be Burris Signature Zee rings, just not sure of the height, until I get a Model number of the rifle.

The scope and rings can travel to another rifle...especially if a picatinny type base is used. I dont consider a Burris FF-II an expensive scope, in relation to what you are getting.

Give the customer service folks at Brownells a call, (get their phone # off their web site). They carry many different bases and mounts in stock, sure they would have something to work on the Rossi.

Rossi rifles come with a base sometimes. I ordered one and then found the factory issued one inside the box later. You can buy a Bushnell banner variable for under $75(I think I saw one for under $60 but that sale might be expired) which will be quite useable for years. A base, B-square rings, and a scope for under $100(maybe a guncase too). Just don't buy a scope from Wally or wherever that come in the plastic clam pack for $29.99. 0 -
I would not get a cheap scope for any rifle because when you upgrade the gun, you can always move the scope. Plus when you sell a gun, a scope really doesn't add that much to the value. Reading through some of these posts, the recommendation seems to be to take the scope off and sell it separately.
A cheap scope now only adds poor light transmission, POI change when changing powers, lack of clarity, etc to to the equation and possible frustration when being used and not being able to see or hit the target.
I'm not necessarily suggesting Zeiss, Swarovksi, Schmidt and Bender, or anything like that, but get something decent. With some of the warrantees now, that scope could last you the rest of your life.0 -
thanks guys for the replys i found the base that came with the rifle.i had several rings but not any would work so i went to a gun shop n baught some leoupold rings and a 3x9x40 tasco i figure by next year he will want my 25/06 with a 4/12 varix III i can put the rossi in my gun safe n let him keep for his younguns one of these days its a fair rifel to start with his arms are too short right now for a big rifel thanks i have a 410 shotgun in my safe that i baught my son about 25 years ago still looks good one more question what kind of grain bullet does he need to use where he will be hunting is pretty open he could get some shots out to 1000 to 150 yards but also they could be right on top of him too jb 0 -

The word is rifle, not rifel. Please do remember this.
As for what grain bullet. For deer hunting there is only a few choice's in the 243. If you are using the Barnes TSX bullet, then the 85 grain works well. Any thing else is 90-100 grains.

thanks for your help on spelling and on the grain of bullet guess i was deer hunting when they taught spelling or rabbit hunting more than likely jb0
