11-87 Gas Collar/Slug Barrel

I have an 11-87 12ga. problem. It has the Light Controu barrel, which has a gas collar on the end. Putting on a Hasting slug barrel for a friend, the forend will not fit with the gas collar on, but will fit with the gas collar off. I know the forend is different from the standard 11-87, but is the gas collar important, or will a new standard forend be needed so the gas collar can be put on. It has the wood stock on it.   The light contour forearm won't fit a standard barrel.

  The Hastings slug barrel is most likely made to the standard contour...
