    I need to be able to see pictures of the mortise cover. Post a link to the auction and I should be able to answer your question about its originality.

    Yes, a non-factory original mortise cover will reduce the value.

    Dust cover looks right to me, but I guess you really can't tell from the one photo. As to caliber, all 73's of this vintage were .44-40 and unmarked. I don't think they were marked until the introduction of the .38-40.

    In answer to your questions, the rifle looks very good and original to me. The mortise cover appears to be correct.
