replacing sight blank

Remington 722 with sight blank installed. I am in the process of acquiring the correct factory sight. Sight blank was installed from right to left, to remove, do I do just the opposite, drift from left to right? And then with the factory sight, install it right to left?

  You are correct as most dovetails have a slight taper. I use a half round brass drift.

  I use a brass drift and put some tape on the barrel around the sight.
