The 40X Rimfire was introduced in 1955. The 40X Centerfires were in '56-'57 for the AMU but were not available to the public until 1961. They looked like 722s (bolt) except they had no magazine cutout. The 40XB was introduced with the M700, they looked the same and the repeater was added.
You'll find it difficult to derive absolute information about these models. There was overlap on dates and features which makes it hard to pin down the nitty gritty details. Even Remington's website has misinformation on it regarding these models.
