I just shot my Ruger 77/22 standard barrel with a 2-8x40 hunting scope and got 9 of 10 shots @ 25 yards in a group that left one 1/2" hole in the paper. This is with a slight wind and the crosshairs cover 1/4" of the target dot at that range(the 5 cups of coffee didn't help any). I'm sure a fine + scope of higher magnification would cut the group some.

I have a Rem 581 that is scary accurate. I slapped a cheezy tasco 4x on it and have no trouble one half inching most .22 Lr's at 22 ranges. It is also my designated rabbit slayer using .22 Super Colibri rounds, so far at leat 40 cottontails have failed to ruin my yard over the past 5-6 years. Almost all shots have resulted in an immediate "backflip-o'-death" and a recovered bunny on the spot.

I have a CZ452 (military trainer) that is phenominal for accuracy. The only other .22 I have ever had that is more accurate than it, is my Remington 541X.

Once I lightened the trigger, the Mossberg M44 I got from CMP became scary accurate. Using Wolf super match ammo and a Nikon scope, it will shoot cloverleaf groups at 100 yards on a calm day. Not every time, but most of the time. I paid $69 for the gun, now CMP sells them for about 3 times that (on an individual basis, they only get a few here or there) and it is a bargain even at that price.

I've seen good things out of CZ 452s at that price range.

I believe that my 512x would shoot with any of the above if the trigger was lighter. Is it possible to lighten the trigger on this old rifle?

A Winchester 320 is a great shooter made by Kimber, can be had for less the 500.00! Mine can hold its own with almost any bolt sporter.

I second the CZ 452, and 453. I have not had any experience with the 455, but the other two, I own, and they are phenominally accurate.

I have an Anschuts 164 sporter that I bought about 20 years
ago. Accuracy is downright scary, but it only likes one or two types of ammo.
