Olympic Arms PCR multi caliber?
I picked up an Olympic Arms AR type rifle. For model it says PCR multi caliber. It's a .22 bore but the bolt face is .540. Does anyone know what round this might be? Nothing is stamped on the gun as far as caliber goes. thanks Don

I know that Olympic Arms was/are manufacturing rifles for the WSSM family of cartridges, and one of their own that is a 30 caliber based on the WSSM case with some modifications. It appears that this is the bolt used for that build. What does the chamber look like? There should be some type of markings on the barrel that describe the cartridge.

I would say read the BARREL, that is were the ACTUAL caliber of any firearm is marked. I have no idea why AR has the caliber marked on a part that has no determination on the caliber.
Just like when you pick up your R700 or Win 70, you look at the barrel just forward of the receiver to see the caliber. You dont read the receiver.0 -
I suspect it's a marketing gimmick further to their PCR marking which meant Politically Correct Rifle and not a military rifle.
The .540 bolt breech face diameter should be good for any cartridge based on the .556 case.0 -

Not really...the only cases that big are the 404 Jeff. based cases...then they are even a little smaller in diameter. The 5.56NATO/223 is much smaller as is the coveted 22-2500 -

Whoa, I don't know what I was drinking but what I thought I was looking at was the 223 base dimension of .375 and all calibers based on that case or rebated to that diameter. .540 is WSM base size maybe 50 Beowolf
or other proprietary cartridges.

nwcid if you look at AR rifles( I have a Bushmaster A2) they have the caliber stamped on the receiver at the mag well. It turns out to be a 223 WSSM 0 -

As you just found out that marking has NOTHING to do with the ACTUAL caliber of the gun. So what if you decided to put a different caliber then .223 on your BM lower? As I stated before the lower has NOTHING to do with the actual caliber, so why is it stamped there. Sure you are limited on what rounds you can shoot from and AR lower but that is no different then a Short action vs Long action bolt gun.
Where did you find the actual caliber of your rifle? Is it stamped on the barrel?
Again what other gun company marks the caliber on the lower receiver or a part that has nothing to do with the actual caliber?
