Old sxs info- info added
Was given on old sxs 12 ga. It says Henry Arms Co. on the side of the receiver. On the rib between the barrels it has LAMINATED STEEL BELGIUM. 28" barrels. Double hammer, double trigger. It is very rusty, can't find any numbers on it. Going to use it for a wall hanger in our hunting cabin. Just would like some info about the gun if anyone has any. Got the gun apart & found Model 374 & ser # 42553.

You have what is known as or called a "Trade Brand Name" shotgun. A "Trade Brand Name" shotgun is one that was made by a major maker for and was sold by a wholesale sporting goods dealer, a retail chain store or an independent retailer. Guns with the name HENRY ARMS CO. were made by one of three makers. Anciens Establissment Pieper and F. Dumoulin both Belgian makers located in Liege,Belgium and an American maker named Crescent Fire Arms Company of Norwich,CT (1892 to 1931). The guns were sold through a New York wholesale and retail sporting goods dealer named H & D Folsom. To determine which look on the bottom of the barrels for proof marks. The Belgian made guns will have the letters "ELG" in an oval with a crown on top. The American made gun will have no proof marks. The Belgian made guns will have been made sometime between 1880 and 1914 when World War One cut off exports from Europe. The American made gun if that's what it is, would have been made in 1898 . I suspect the gun was made in Belgium. Value? Everyone wants to know. Value will depend on the guns condition, the amount of original finish remaining on the metal and wood as well as the mechanical condition. A prime condition example that appears to have come out of the factory yesterday afternoon might bring as much as $100 while a rusty rotten incomplete piece of junk fit only for parts salvage might bring as little as $10. Thanks- That was realy the only info I was looking for. I know this gun is a piece of junk, but thought it would look good on the wall of the hunting cabin. There is no finish left anywhere. Looks complete less one hammer. It even includes the baling wire around the wrist. 0 -
If you want to, you can replace the missing hammer by contacting Dixie Gun Works. They seel genernic hammers that can be adapted to fit several different shotguns. 0
