Old Colt Revolver
i have an old colt revolver that looks alot like a model 1901 but ther are some differances. the trigger is slightly different and the grips have a round brass pony emblem. there is also no sling loop on the butt.it is in 22lr and i have a serial number. i would like to find the value but am not sure of the model. can anyone help?

My brother-in-law just bought an old revolver at a garage sale for $100. It appears to be a Colt Army 44 cal cap & ball. On the cylinder it has "Colt Pat # Sep 10 1850. The serial number is 45767. The trigger guard is brass and the rest is blued and appears to be in good shape. We wondered if anyone on here could tell us about how old it is from the serial number and what it might be worth. It is an original, not a reproduction. Thanks a lot.

I doubt it is a real colt but even if its a repoduction he most likely didn't get hurt bad. Good pictures would help, see the sticky at the top. 0 -

but if it's original, he did VERY, VERY well.
if it's a newer colt repro, still not a bad buy

Thanks a lot. I'm sure is is original and I'll take some pics and see if I can figure out how to get them on here. The gun was bought from an elderly lady who said it belonged to her husband who died 10 years ago. It wasn't really for sale at a garage sale but every time my brother in law hits a garage sale he ask the same question. Do you have any fishing stuff or any guns? This time the lady said "I've got an old pistol that used to belong to my husband", went inside and got it. He ask her what she wanted and she said $100. I'll see him next weekend and will get some pics. Thanks.

If your Colt is original, it was manufactured in 1862 based on the serial number but we really need good pictures.
Compare your revolver to the pics below, particularly the locations of the serial numbers and the barrel & frame markings:
