Ruger single six ?
I have a 22 single six revolver with the serial number 508157. I was wondering if it was made in 1954 and if it is a xr3 frame. How can you tell it from another frame? Thanks David

Yes, it would be an XR3 frame if made in 1954 but your serial number is too high for that year. Are you sure about the number? I'm showing your number as a Super Single Six made in 1965.
Is the grip frame stamped "XR3" or "XR3 RED" under the grips?
This website shows all Ruger grip frames from 1953 to present:

dave you may also want to get a copy of the Nov/Dec issue of American Handgunner. They have a interesting article on Ruger Single Actions from the 1950's to early '60's. You can also just read the internet copy but I kinda like the paper versions.
