I have seen H&R 929, 4 in. and 6 in. , models with flat, "slab sided", barrels that I THINK may have been from 1959-1960 era. I recently saw a copy of an H&R 732 instruction sheet with a drawing of a 4 in. model with "slab sided" barrel, not the actual gun but a drawing on the instr. sheet.

Was the 732 actually available with a 4 inch FLAT sided barrel? I'm asking in order to judge whether or not it is feasible to search for one.

  H&R 732 revolver functions well for about 10 cycles, then locks up. As the cylinder cycles, it is screwing itself onto the cylinder pin until it is too tight to rotate. Any thoughts?

  Try putting a little lock tite on it...it keeps things from tightening more just like it prevents things from loosening.

  The cylinder pin/extractor rod should rotate with the cylinder. If it is not - then the pin bushing is probably rusted to it. I don't understand how this can happen, but then I'm merely a collector and not a gun mechanic. Can you describe exactly what is happening in a bit more detail? Does the rod pull out to open the cylinder and push in to extract the casings? Does it spin in conjuction with the cylinder (the aft end is threaded into the extractor star and the nub then sits in a recess in the recoil shield). There's also a collet inside the cylinder bushing that connects the two piece rod and then a spring to provide the retraction of the extractor.????????????

  Here is a more detailed description of the problem:
  The cylinder pin pulls back properly to release the cylinder and crane, and pushes forward to eject spent cartridges. However, it does not spring back after ejection, and must be pushed back into place. It feels as if it is binding, even though I have thoroughly disassembled, cleaned, and lightly re-oiled the crane, cylinder, and ejector mechanism.
  When cycling, the cylinder pin does not rotate with the cylinder, but remains stationary.
  There appears to be a slot for a small pin on the cylinder pin mechanism, and no pin present.
  
  Any ideas?

  Yep, the pin that is missing is the "locator" or index pin that moves the star extractor and thus the ejector rod in concert with the cylinder - as the cylinder rotates. You need to put that pin back in place.
