"Little Skeeters"
Anyone out there have any experience with using these inserts. Both pros and cons. I thought the 20ga to 28ga would be interesting to try. Thanks Andy

I hve some but haven't tried them. I consider them to be very short range practice due to the extreme loss of velocity and poor pattern caused by the gas blowing by the wad while in the barrel. Likely best possible performance from 28 in a 20. 0 -
I have Gauge Mates, nearly the same. 12to16, 16to20. I expected loss of pattern and velocity due to the wad size less than bore size. I was completely wrong. I measured and experienced good patterns and killing power (grouse) equal to the sub gauge. It goes against all common reasoning, but they work fine. Actually some shotguns are overbored intentionally to improve pattern. I beleive the mossberg 835 is one of them. I have not tried 20to28, your getting small there, and border line shot weight in my opinion. Gauge mates are stainless and I think that is a good idea.
The only fault I found was after about a box of shells it was hard to push the sub gauge shell (powder residue) out from the adapter. Remember the gun extracts the entire adapter and you then by hand push out the sub gauge shell. All my shooting was done with sxs non ejector and also 20ga in 16 2 1/2chamber. One of my sxs will not close with gauge mates and so I never forced it. I also tried a rounds in 870 pump 12ga/16 adapter, single loading, ok. Careful they are thin wall and I would imagine they would bend much like a thread in choke if dropped on hard surface.0 -
I have a set of 12 ga to .410 and I thin they work fairly well although I would rather have another gun, and another etc. 0 -
Since you brought up this topic I would like to say that anyone owning a 16ga with 2 1/2 chambers (mostly european/combination guns) that a gage mate in 20ga and a modest load of 1oz in a 20ga. has worked well for me. Again in my own opinion and experience. The short chamber force-ing cone of a 16ga 2 1/2 is of no consequence to a 20ga wad/shot column from a gage mate. 0
