Winchester Model 1892 questions...
Hello all, It has been a good few years since I last visited. I am going to be selling 20 some rifles for a client that wants to downsize his collection.
I have a couple Winchester rifles I am looking for more info on before they go up for auction. This is a Model 1892. Serial 240166. I am looking for some guestimates on value (I ask as after searching completed listing the prices fluctuate so much & I am not sure why), an idea on production date, caliber, anything that looks unusual or odd & just general info really. I am not an expert, I am just looking to list these guns accurately so any info is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance! Jonathan

The year of manufacture is 1903 . Prices are all over the place right now and there's not much moving . Condition is everything with old Winchesters and i would call the one in the picture , shooter grade ! 0 -
The date of manufacture was February 1904. It was received in the warehouse in March of 1904.
The barrel is not original to the rifle, and it has the mail order (P) proof marking on it. Based on how it is marked on the left side flat (MODEL 92), it is a late 1920s vintage barrel.
The rest of the rifle is in "Fair" condition at best, showing very little original finish, and lots of wear & tear. If you can get $400 for it, you will have done well.0 -
If you acquire it, or have already acquired it and are thinking of putting it up for auction, I will start it at $375.00. I have been looking for a good .25-20 shooter ever sence I screwed up and sold mine.
For GOD and COUNTRY
Not as Lean[:D][:D]2x as Mean[:(!][:(!]But STILL a MARINE[}:)][}:)]

Thanks everyone for the fast replies, I am sure my client will not be as happy as he expected... I enjoy learning from all the experts on GB. I did not realize how many issues it has. WWllVet, I will post here if my client decides to auction it off. Thanks again, more to come!
