If I am interpreting Brophy's book correctly, David, it was probably a first year production rifle, which would be an 1895 DOM due to the low serial number. Is the ejector held in place by a screw?

After viewing the pictures at the link you posted and reviewing Brophy's book again, I tend to agree that it is not an 1895 production rifle. However, round and octagon barrels were standard at the beginning of production.
The left side of the receiver shown in your auction shows two holes near the top that are ejector plate screws that were introduced in 1908 per Brophy book, page 187, bottom right picture and caption. This being the case, the upper tang marking should read Marlin on the top line and Model '92 on the bottom line. And, if that is the case, that's about as close, (btwn. 1908 and 1915), as I can get to a DOM for it. Hopefully, someone will come up with a more definitive answer for you.
The above 1908 note fits well with the Lyman No. 2A Combination Tang Sight Variation, which has a patent date of July 25, 1905.
Edit: Another note of interest for you. On page 191 of Brophy's book is the following: The following are the low and the high serial numbers reported or observed for the Model 1892 rifle. Low A1,823 High A8,475

I don't think it is that old. It has a round barrel, and it looks to me as though the ejector is riveted in place.
