AR style 22's
The November/December Peterson's Rifleshooter has an excellent article on Tactical rimfires AKA AR style 22's.The article covered the Ruger,S&W and the Mossberg, with the Kudo's going to S&W as the better of the three. Now my question, has anyone read anything on the Colt AR 22? or does anyone have one? I like the S&W but the Colt looks interesting for only slightly more money.Really curious about the Colt.

A friend bought a Colt when they first came out. The only thing he didn't like about it was the heavy trigger. I got a picture of it and he did a trigger job on it. This is one job that is not for anyone. There are too many pieces in it for the layman to do. The S&W has regular AR trigger parts, but you need to use certain ammo in them. Put S&W AR22 in the search and read the posts there. S&W may have the shooting out of battery problem fixed by now. A friend had two or three they got that had to go back to S&W for repair.
I looked at the newest S&W out at a show and if going to get one now, that would be the one.0 -
get a dedicated upper that uses the CMMG/ceinier type bolt and put on a regular AR lower you will be happyer 0 -

A friend of mine has the Colt and it is a jam-omatic. We've tried all types of ammo and can't find anything it likes. Cleaned it, lubed it, ran it dry... Nothing seems to work. I'd follow Airdale's advice and go with the TacSol dedicated upper. The one's I've been around ran great. 0 -
Olympic Arms makes a dedicated upper that has received good reviews also. I dont know anyone thats owned one though. 0 -
all the toy wanabe AR15/22 i have seen..colt(umarex) ,S&W ? and the mossberg are really cheapo,,, the mossberg was made of plastic..buy a dedicated upper and put on a real lower i like spikes (but discontiued) CMMG, tacsol..i have two uppers from model 1 sales that use the dedicated CMMG/ciener/attchessin bolts i used the stainless steel bolts,, they are real slick,, then get black dog machine mags 26rd or the 50 drum ,or CMMG mags 0 -

I already have 2 AR's and just wanted a plinker,something the grandkids would enjoy, I did pick up the S&W 15-22 yesterday and already went to the range,Very satisified for what I was looking for,functioned perfectly and accurate.Rifle Shooter magazine was right on target. ATI has one on the market also. I believe the upper is made by GMG, where the GSG-5 is made in Germany. They sell it as both just a dedicated upper, or as a complete rifle on a real AR-15 lower.

That was my approach. I bought a CMMG version. Did a touch of fiddling with it by removing the plastic bolt close device & replacing with a real steel. Removed their version of the ejection cover and that plastic bump designed to keep gas out of your eye - I shoot lefty and hug the gun, if it doesn't bother me I suspect anyone else will be OK. A few other touches to make it look exactly like an older XM177 and it's a great little gun.0 -
I also went w/ the dedicated upper. One sweet thing about that set-up is that you can have a folding stock, since there is no buffer tube. Enjoy. 0
