colt official police .38 pre war?
Serial #713*** cant post pictures are they hard to find in about 85-90% ? any guesses as to when it was made?

Dates to 1944 according to my reference. Those made during W W II aren't common. Many were made for the government with gray finish similar to Parkerizing, they were known as the Colt commando. If yours has a factory original blued finish might be worth something extra to a collector.
EDIT #1, Double check the serial number. Make specially sure it hasn't been screwed with. In the past it was not uncommon for crooked folks to either add a number before or after the real factory serial number to disguise it.0 -

Colt Commando series issued to the U.S. Gov't during WWII. Many Colts stayed in 'backwater' posts, and weren't issued to active line troops. If your 1944 dated Colt doesn't have the [markings below-see photos], then it's a rare item indeed!

It does not have colt commado on it just official police..
