safety on early model 700

I have obtained an early 700 remington that has the feature of not being able to open the bolt with the safety in the safe position.
I need to know how to remove or alter this feature so it will open in the safe mode.

  I have a 700 BDL in 7 mag that was built in June of 62, it and every other older 700 I've ever been around, has the same type of safety. It was just the nature of the beast.

  There is actually a recall on those, and if you call Remington, they will take care of that for you.

  This for the most part had nothing to do with the accidental discharges that created a law suit, and caused the company to eliminate the Bolt Lock. What did have to do with it, would be unqualified people(BUBBA's) adjusting the trigger's with to little sear engagement. You could actually pull the trigger with the safety on, and PARTIALLY release the sear...the sear went the rest of the way when you released the safety, when the finger was no where near the trigger.
  
  The Winchester Model 70, Ruger 77 MK II, Savage 110, 112, 114, 116 series, and the Steyer SBS system, with a 3 posistion safety where the Bolt is locked down, with the gun on safe, and can also be on safe to open the bolt, and totally off to fire are the great systems. The Browning X-Bolt, and TC Icon are good too, as they do have bolt releases when the gun is on safe.

  The safety has a small tab that will engage into a slot on the bolt. I to do not like the fact that you cant load and unload the rifle with the safety on with this kind of system . Dangerous especially with a fully loaded ADL. I used a dremel with a cut off disk to modify this TAB .This way it does not lock the bolt. Be aware this Fix will allow the bolt handle to rise while carrying the rifle slung over your shoulder. sort of like the lesser of two evils. However for me the extra measure of safety loading and unloading the rifle is worth it to me.

  Personally, I prefer the bolt be locked down when on safe but apparently a majority of users can't keep their finger off the trigger while loading/unloading. On a number of hunts especially in heavy brush, I've found my bolt open and the chambered round missing. Doesn't happen with a bolt locking type safety.

  Couple years back Remington offered the fix for free, just take your gun to a Remington Authorized gunsmith.
  
  You might send a e-mail to Rem or call and see what's the latest from the horses mouth.
  
  I have some of the old models and some of the new models 700's and I did not take any of mine in for the upgrade. couple of the reasons why I did not is for one, WE always have the barrel pointed in a safe direction when loading and unloading MY guns and next the gun's are one holers and work great as they are now!
  
  If Bubba gets ahold of any gun and starts playing around , mis-adjusting the trigger and not relying on good gun handling safety is when the liability aspect comes into play, blame it on someone else, was not my fault, it just went off by itself, etc, and I spilled a hot cup of coffee in my crotch when it discharged! Where is that ambulance chasing lawyer?
