    Springfield Armory and Remington-UMC made 1911s under contract in those days.

    I think you need to read Charles Clawson's book on Colt .45 Service Pistols This will give you the History of any rebuilding of pistols ,any renumbering ,all inspector markings ,ETC. You seem to be confused with the accuracy in many of the statements on your post.From the Price to who made pistols during WW I .
