Stock fix shotgun grip
Gramps old Ithaca has a old ghetto repair with a brass nut and bolt securing the split in the but-stock grip...
Any suggestions on alternative solutions to dress up this classic sxs?
Thanks!

drill each end out slightly larger, insert shorter bolt and nut, then plug with scrap wood.... sand down refinish if plugs look to bad. 0 -
wpage,
A good picture would go a long way to helping us see the extent of the damage.

I'm assuming you want to keep the stock and not replace it.
Remove stock from gun and unbolt the repair, hopefully there will be a gap present. modern day 2-part epoxies work exceptionally well, and use a popsical stick to press the epoxie deep into the gap and clamp using scrap wood pieces to not mar the finish. do not use a 5 minute glue as you'll need time to fill the gap and wipe excess off the stock.
look for a threaded 2 part rivet in the hardware stores nut & bolt trays to fit the old repair hole only shorter. probably locate this before glueing so you can clamp the crack using this also.
as to the final fill of the holes, hopefully a colored wood putty.
good luck, Thor0 -
Thanks for the suggestions...
Thinking of using a hammer in frame type solution. Sorry no pics.
Glue and hammer or screw is my preference. Like the idea of a mini solution,
thanks for that!0 -
Do as they did in the old days, wrap with green(fresh)rawhide and secure the end with brass tacks, let it dry. It will last forever, ask Cochise [:)] 0 -

Lots of good info...
Going to go both ways and fix the old as well as get a new stock for comparisons.

A friend showed me a old trick using molding fasteners that look like a
metal strip stamped to a zzz type design. Got to digest all this and keep the old as a hot spare with repairs.
Thanks
