Did original 1851 Colts ever have a factory original dovetailed front sight?

No.
I have seen a very old rear dovetailed sight on an 1860 but dollars to donuts it was a gunsmith job.

I beg to difffer. Factory dove tailed blade sights occur in very late 3rd model and in 4th model '51 Navies. They occur intermittantly with the pin sight.

Agreed, it is a rare 1851 to have a factory dovetail front sight, but they did leave the factory. Most were in the 60,000 - 80,000 serial number range, or so I've read.
