Store Brand Rifle
Found a reasonable condition Mauser-style 30-06 at a pawn shop. It is marked as a Coast to Coast Model 100, made in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I have tried Google, Wiki, and the Blue Book and a couple of store brand cross references, but I still cannot find out who the real manufacturer is and a reasonable value.

I don't think it was made there. The importer most likely. Does it carry any marks on the action? How much do they think its worth? Some pic's or a discription of its features would help. 0 -
I just assumed it was made there since it definitely had that city and state marked. But, besides that, no other marks. It is a Mauser style bolt action in 3006. Coast to Coast hardware stores bought guns from well known manufacturers and had them marked with their own store brand name. Not an uncommon practice. For example, the Montgomery Ward Glenfields were made by Marlin. Other manufacturers, such as Mossberg, Savage, and Winchester also made storename guns. The problem is, none of the cross references I have found online show a Coast to Coast Model 100. (I've tried several, including Numrich, Blue Book, and others.) Yet, that model is clearly what is on the barrel. No other marks detectable.
I'd just like to find out the background of who the real manufacturer was and what would be the cross reference brand name model. [:)]
Thanks for the effort guys. I guess this rifle will remain a mystery. [;)] I had no illusions about any value, just thought about it as a shooter for the pickup truck. I just like to know the technical details on my guns. I did check those other sources suggested by you guys, and saw no one had provided an answer. But, I didn't recall ever seeing the question here. [:)]
VDMS55- Did the reference specify which model of Savage? If so, I may be able to find a picture and print it out for comparison with the rifle in the store. Thanks.0 -
I found one with scope that sold on another gun auction site for $237.

C to C was a tradname of a hardware chain in the midwest through the 70's or later (may still be some in operation). All the ones in my immediate area have closed. The rifle is most likely a low end commercial Mauser similar to the JC Higgins. The value is whatever it's worth as a shooter or action donor. I'm no Mauser expert so this is just a guess:BSA(England) made a lot of this type rifle. 0 -

Without pictures, your description lacks enough detail to make any reasonable guess as to the manufacturer of this rifle.
Coast to Coast is a just a private label for some other primary manufacturer. The roll mark is a standard process for private labeling so it has no bearing on the origins unless the cross reference list is complete enough to include the reference. By taking the rifle apart, you have access to the primary manufacturers marks which will enable you to determine who actually made the rifle. Yes I understand that the rifle is in another store and you don't have access to it as you would if owned it. But more work on your part or the store is necessary to get this solved.

All manufactured products imported into the US for commercial sale are required to be marked with country of origin per US law. If this C to C rifle isn't so visibly marked, per your description it has to be US made.
Above and beyond who made it and where, store brand firearms aren't big buck collectors items. I would value it at about 1/2 to 2/3 of the value of the new Savage rifles that the big sporting goods stores and on-line discount dealers sell, i.e. ( check what bud's is selling the promotional Savages for).
This assumes that the C to C is in at least Very Good cosmetic condition, functional and the bore is excellent. Don't let this pawn shop guy sell you a bill of goods. It's something he got it out of pawn for chump change. Just another deer rifle, no big deal.0 -

Am in the Minneapolis area & remember when there were many stores. Ten or so years ago new ownership & management dropped the name of remaining stores & they are now known as True Value Hardware. 0 -
hi andrews, i picked up a rifle similar to what you have described only the roll stamp was montgomery ward model 100. it had the control feed mauser action and the action was stamped "Belguim". turned out it was made by savage and i think i found the information in the 24th edition of the blue book of gun values. the gun smith that re-blued it for me stated that the action was worth about $300. after the refurbising it turned out to be a fine shooter. (bedded action, floated barrel, and found the load it liked best) 0 -
I came across a couple of rusty commercial mausers that were FIE(?) and looked them up in a 1968 gun catalog. They were also made in Belgium. Further research found them to be made by FN for import to the US and looks like a lot of private label stores must have used them as well.
The the barrels were rusted out and the actions were not pretty either. The stocks were good for kindling and I was ready to trash them, but a custom stockmaker saw them and told me to send the barreled actions to his friend in Missouri. Once the barrels were removed he checked the action and said they were ok.
Long story short, he rebarreled my action with a Shilen and my friend got a Douglas barrel on his. The rust bucket rifles now have a new life as a 338 Win Mag and a 416 Taylor, previously were 300 Win Mag and 7mm Mag.
So when ever you come across a "bargain bin" rifle that is a mauser action that is marked Belgium, grab it because you may have found a hidden gem. By the way if it marked, Spain, don't bother with it.0 -
