"Best" Mosin Nagant? Hex, Round, Maker?
Never owned one, want to get the most robust make/model. Wound up with several hunnert rounds of 7.62X54R, and need some way to get rid of them.

I bought one at a pawnshop once. It had a P number on it. Found out it was a Finnish model. Don't know exactly why, but it was much more valuable than the average MN price I paid for it. Sold it for about 3x. 0 -
My 2 best shooting Mosins are a 1891 made in 1917 and a M38 made in 1942. Like most military rifles it's a crap shoot. Bore condition and choice of ammo matter. The 1891 likes heavy ball, the M38 likes the light ball. I've heard the opposite from other shooters. 0 -
I feel that a Finnish Model 28/30 may be the most accurate and is one of the more valuable Mosin Nagants. They have a heavy barrel, good sights, and I believe, a .308 bore instead of .310-.312. The Model 27 is almost as good. Either sells for about $250-$400 depending on condition. The Model 39's are excellent as well. A M39 made by SAKO with a good bore is a great shooter and will cost about $350, more or less. If you just want a common shooter, get a M91 or 91/30 with a Finnish stock and barrel with a good bore. I like the barrels made by Tikka best. These sell for about$250-$275. For an inexpensive shooter, get a Russian made 91/30 at a local gun show for around $100. There isn't any difference between hex or round receivers as far as accuracy; The thing is to make sure the bore is in good shape. The hex receivers are worth slightly more. 0 -
I have a very minty B barrel Finn Model 39 that is an exquisitely accurate rifle. The B barrels were made under contract in Belgium, I believe by FN, to very high standards, and installed on re-worked Russian Model 91's with new Finnish design stock and nice fit and finish. The B barrel (so marked) Finn 39's do bring a premium price. Of about 20 different Mosins I have owned, it is so far the best of the litter. 0 -
The Finn rifles are regarded as being better on some of the fine points than the Russian ones, but the Russians made no duds. All of the Russian arsenals made their rifles to the same standards, and Tula, while producing only about 8% as many Mosins as Izhevsk did during WW2, made an exactly equal product. It's like the difference between a Rock-Ola and an Underwood Carbine.
Try to snag one with best possible bore condition, as that can certainly make a difference, and much of the surplus stuff has questionable bores.0
