Old Winchester Sign Help Please (Pictures)
I have this old Winchester sign that I think might be old. It is forty eight inches long and twenty four inches high at the highest point. It weighs almost twenty five pounds. The rifle on it appears to be made of plaster or they use to call it chalkware. I traded for it years ago, from a guy who fought it years ago at a yard sale. Someone please tell me or point me in the right direction where I could send a picture to find more about it. Is it old or new or what might it be worth?

Hello Y'all I think I posted this a couple of years ago but did not get a answer maybe now somebody might have some info. Could somebody please give me some info on this sign? I traded for it years ago from an old guy who bought it years ago at a yard sale. The sign is 48 inches long and 24 inches high. It weighs 24 pounds. The rifle appears to be made out of some sort of plaster. Can some one tell me anything about this sign? Is it old or new or maybe how old it is or what it is worth? I would be grateful for any help, thank You

really nice , wouldn't mind haveing it but,
i don't think it was a factory made/built sign.
seems to have some age to it .
it is worth what you can get for it or someone is willing to spend on it.
true value would be to put it on the auction side and see where it goes from there.0 -

Looks fake to me. The rendition of the 66/73 looks too crude compared to the printing.
Although winchester made experimental pistols (Watrous 1966) Idon't believe they were ever offered for sale. Just the same its a nice sign.0 -

I think the winchester pistol is the tell. I doubt it's a factory sign 0 -

The sign does not advertise Winchester pistols. It says cartridges for pistols, etc. Winchester did offer a complete line of cartridges.

Antique Road Show will more then likely state. This sign will cross TWO types of collectors Those that collect Folk Art "WHAT I BELIEVE THIS IS " and Firearm accessories / memorabilia "surely of interest to someone that has a display of vintage firearms". In the right place an interior decorator would charge Big Bucks. Thus the auction price might be fairly high. However the more serious a historical correct collector is Like BERT H . IMHO the less that person would be interested in a rather crude non factory Item. And the less it would bring. Sort of like an item hanging on the wall in a Cracker Barrel restaurant. 0 -
Get in touch with the bigger auction houses such as James D. Julia and Rock Island and see what they have to say. I've seen a similar sign on auction before, but I don't remember following up on the lot. 0 -
Just my personal opinion, its a very nice repro, however I'm dubious of the suspected age due to the glossy paint which still reflects that amount of light after all these years. Very old paint just does'nt reflect that much regardless of where it was stored. 0
