    The 30-03 and the 30-06 are nearly identical, with the 30-06 having just a slightly shorter neck. The longer neck on the 30-03 was required for the 220-grain bullet that it used as standard. So Yes, you can shoot a 30-06 in a 30-03 chambered rifle. The accuracy will not be real good unless you use one of the heavier bullets, and you seat it out to make the OAL as close as possible to the 30-03 specs.
