Winchester DOB
I have a model 1886 in 4590, serial# 6 00 1. Wondering the DOB, and why S# is struck with a space after the 6 and before the 1.
Thanks

Winchester did not place any spaces between the serial number digits. I suspect some monkey-business has occurred.
Serial number 6001 was manufactured mid-year 1887.
I agree with Noah... post a picture of the serial number showing the spacing.0 -
As soon as I can get a picture downloaded, I will.

It looks original to me. The space between the "6" and the first "0" is a bit larger than usual, but it is correct. The space between the second "0" and the "1" is more of an optical illusion due to the "1" being narrower than the "0". 0 -
