    Hello Mark,

Actually, it was a long way from being near the end of production. Serial number 807733 was stamped on the receiver frame and the lower tang in May of 1929. The very last Model 90 (serial number 854747) left the Polishing Room on November 23rd, 1949... twenty-years later.

Bert, Why is it that on two DOM websites they list Serial #752044 as the last one in 1941? The year 1929 ends at #725439. Are these DOM websites that far off? Thanks Mark

Yes, they are really that far off.

For what it is worth, both of the websites you looked at undoubtedly used the flawed information published by George Madis back in the 1960s. Ned Schwing in his fine reference book on the Models 1890 and 1906 has the correct DOM information in his tables, but they stop short of showing all the available serial numbers and dates. He apparently missed finding the later records. The Cody Firearms Museum research office has Polishing Room Serialization Records for all of the Model 1890 and 1906 rifles that were manufactured. They can (for a fee) provide you with an official document showing the exact day, month, & year your Model 90 was serialized.

Bert, One website was Cruffler, the other was Oldguns.net.

Neither of those websites contain accurate Winchester DOM information, nor does Proofhouse, Savage99, and several others I can not remember the names of at this moment.

Bert, I bought Ned Schwing Model 1890-1906 book. Real fine book. Where can a person get the accurate DOM for the rest of the 1890 serial numbers that are not in his book? Thanks, Mark

    Hello Mark,

I am wrapping up a new Winchester serialization book as I write this. I hope to have it published early next year. In the mean time, you can contact the Cody Firearms Musuem research office for a specific serial number, or contact me via PM.
