Using Kroil

Hi, Experts! A while back I asked for some advice in removing light pitting from a gun. Several who replied suggested applying a product called Kroil and wiping it off with burlap cloth. So, I've bought the Kriol. What I need to know is do you soak the gun in the oil and if so for how long? How many times do you repeat the process to get the desired result? Thanks for any additional assistance. Regards Jim

    Kroil is a excellent product. I would suggest using it in small applications and wiping between use till desired results are met.'

    It all depends on the nature of your project!

    If it's a small area, a few drops will spread to cover the spot. Let is soak for a few hours and then scrub with the burlap.

    If you haven't used it before be careful with it. It's foul smelling toxic stuff. Best to use it outside, or at the very least your garage with the door open.

    KROIL will not harm metal for best results I wrap area with paper towel and keep wet with kroil for 24 -72 hours. Items like a pistol I completely strip to ever part and get a zip lock bag don't put the grips in the bag but every thing else turn bag every few hours or at least 3 times a day The longer this stuff has time to work the better.

    Do not let it come in contact with wood stocks... take them off before starting.

    I thoroughly cover the areas I intend to clean with the Kroil, let it sit overnight, and then use fine mesh copper wool (wetted with Kroil) to gently scrub the rust/crud free of the affected areas.

    Nothing you can use is going to remove light pitting... unless it can remove the surrounding steel.

    I've never had a problem with the odor. I use it frequently to clean or coat a clean bore before storage.

    Count me as another that is not offended by the odor[^] (but my wife hates the smell of it).

    Why not skip the Kroil and just use the Big Frontier metal cleaner to remove surface rust? Works better and the smell issue is avoided. Of course, if you are addicted to the smell, you still can use it with the Big Frontier.

    I use it for aftershave..my chin doesn't rust and the ladies love it!!!!
