sheared off scope mount screw-remove broken part?

hello;

shearded off a scope mount screw flush with the receiver. any suggestion on how to get broken part out of receiver. thanks for any info.

    Take it to a gunsmith with the equipmennt. If you have a very precise drill you can drill and revease the screw. If you do not have the equipment a good gunsmith will take care of it far cheaper than destroying your reciever or you purchasing tools to do it.

    40 to 50 In.Lbs , is plenty of torque . That snap and back off half a turn , doesn't work very well .

    A left hand drill bit will usually back a broken scope mount screw out.
    This Should Not be attempted with a hand drill. Would be best to entrust this to a competent gunsmith so as to avoid cutting the threads in the receiver.

    Sometimes you can use a sharp watch maker's screwdriver and some heat to work the screw out or perhaps all the way in if its not a blind hole. If it's nice gun and you are short on skills and tools a gunsmith would be the way to go.

    Did you use Red Loctite? If you did (or the other feller) you might be boned. Do as it's been mentioned. Good clamp and a drill press will make this task easier.

    I've had good results doing the following.

    Using a dremel and the cutting disc (careful, as in very, very careful) make a cut in the top of the sheared off screw, just deep enough to hold a very small, thin screwdriver bit. Then back it out. If you used loctite heat may break the seal.

    It can be done but again, very carefully and the top of the broken screw does need to be even with the barrel/receiver, not below.

    if it is not over the threads of the barrel just set it up in a drill press or milling machine. take a sharp ctr. punch and tap tdc. then take a #29 drill and chances are it will spin out. with out touching the 6x48 threads. if it is over the threads and red loctite has been used.. set it up to drill. take a 12D nail and heat red hot and hold on screw to loosen the loctite. then proceed with a left hand drill . a milling machine would have to be used here
