Reverse what you think.
Am I not correct when adjusting a scope when you want the point of impact to be higher than currently you are actually positioning the crosshairs lower so when positioned on the target the barrel, point of impact is higher.
Seems reverse but you are actually moving the barrel and not the crosshairs.

You are mostly correct. You have actually moved both. The crosshairs move in relation to the barrel causing the barrel to move in relation to the target. If you shoot low while holding dead center then the crosshairs in the scope need to come down. If you then place the crosshairs dead center on the target after moving them down it will cause the muzzle to be slightly elevated in relation to where it was when shooting low, thus causing you to shoot slightly higher. Most scope turrets I've dealt with will be marked for the direction that you want the bullet to move, not the crosshairs. If you are shooting 2" low at 100 yards and your scope is graduated in 1/4" increments, then you need to move the turret in the "up" direction 8 clicks. (2" divided by 1/4" = 8)

Easiest way I have found to relate this to people is you are adjusting where you look. If gun is secured so as to not move, bullets will continue to strike the same spot, and you are adjusting the crosshairs to where you want them. 0 -
Refer to what tsr1965 said. Scope manufacturers have dealt with the issue of the confusion as to whether the shooter can figure out what in the hell needs to be done for years. Always remember that you can't move where the gun is shooting you can only move the sights/scope to the point of impact. So if the gun is shooting to the left of point of aim you actually need to move the scope/sights to the left to where the gun is shooting. Since there was so much confusion scope manufacturers just figured that it was easier if the bullets were hitting to the left then they made the windage adjustments go to the right but making the crosshairs actually go to the left to match the point of impact (your reverse thinking so to speak).If you had an open sighted gun that was shooting low then you would actually raise the rear sight to get the sight to meet the point of impact. Think about the gun shooting where it will, using the muzzle/front sight in a fixed position what do you need to do with the rear sight to make it line up with the point of impact with a straight sight line as the gun is shooting.[:)]
