SCOPE ADJUSTMENT

IF YOU HIT A TARGET OFF FROM THE POINT OF AIM SHOULD YOU NOT ADJUST YOU SCOPE FROM THE POINT OF AIM TO THE POINT OF IMPACT.

THUS IF YOU HIT TO THE RIGHT OF THE POINT OF AIM SHOULD YOU NOT ADJUST THE SCOPE TO THE RIGHT AS INDICATED ON THE SCOPE ADJUSTMENTS?

    I built a sporter on a Mauser 98. I had gunsmiths do the fine work including mounting Weaver scope mounts. My scope will not adjust properly.
    I need to move the site to the right but I am out of range on the adjustment; same for another scope that I mount.When I change scopes the crosshairs are pretty much in the same spot, aiming too far left. What is wrong and what can I do about it?

    most scopes actually move the crosshairs in the opposite direction of what the dial says. Some people had a hard time realizing that if the gun was shooting to the left of point of aim then you needed to move the scope to the left so that you moved the scope to the point of impact rather than moving the gun to where you are looking with the scope. So in reality if you are shooting to the left move the windage dial to the right until you get to where you need to be.

    What the turrets tell you, are not the direction of which the croshair moves, but the direction you want the bullet to move.

    So, if you hit to the right of the point of aim, and you want to move the bullet left, turn the turret in the direction that it says is left. Youwill actually be moving the crosshair to the right. Same goes for elevation. If you strike hign, turn your turret in the downward indicated direction...but your crosshair is actually moving upward.

    I shoot from a lead sled one shot. Then I put the crosshairs back to the exact point of aim for that first shot. I then turn the adjustments to move the crosshairs over the point of impact of the first shot and shoot again.
