usps and duct tape

hello all again
Is there a homeland serurity thing on you cant' ship a box with duct tape on it? post office said it was but wondering if they knew it was a gun and that was a way not too?

    I have been told that the Post office does not approve of duct tape because it is too sticky and can gum up their automated mail sorting equipment and want packages sealed with conventional sealing tape or paper tape. This is the same reason that they also don't want parcels wrapped in paper or tied with string or twine. With that said I can state that I have received parcels sealed with duct tape (and also tied with string) so there seems to be quite a bit of give and take on enforcement. There could be a conspiracy (there always is here on Gun broker) but chances are that you just ran across some by the book clerk who has a personal dislike of duct tape.

    I had the same thing happen, except it was wrapped in brown paper and sealed with masking tape. They are afraid the brown paper will snag and the address will tear off and the masking tape or duct tape will come loose and gum up their sorter.
    Get some of that paper tape they use in the shipping department of the warehouse. It is about 3" wide and has black nylon threads embedded. That is some tough mother tape. Wet it down with a sponge and slick it on. That package is NOT coming open. [:D]

    The primary reasons for not sealing packages with anything other than a paper type tape has to do with stamp imprints.

    I shipped a package last month via UPS. The handling agent said UPS no longer wants duct tape on packages. He offered to to seal it with clear plastic tape.

    well thanks for all your replies,what she told me it was a homeland sercurity issue which i think is bogus but any way going to a different po and find out. let you asll know when i find out.

    Well, she had to choose between "it's a homeland security issue" and "I don't know, & I'm too lazy to check with my supervisor".

    "Tape your box shut and reinforce the seams with 2" wide tape. Use clear or brown packaging tape, reinforced packing tape, or paper tape. Do not use cord, string, or twine because it gets caught in mail processing equipment."

    The rules are the rules; now you know them. Either comply, send a complaint to the Postermaster General, or take your business elsewhere.

    Most of the time, the idiots at the PO make it up as they go along. They get their jollies by having the only illusion of power in their otherwise pitiful lives. Unfortunately, if you talk to the local PO manager, they will back up their worker because they do not want trouble from the postal workers union. Thus, the homeland security and other outragious excuses.

    Do a search on usps.com for "duct tape".

    You'll find that USPS does not recommend duct tape or maxking tape for sealing packages.

    well to another p.o. no promblems. the workers there said they never heard of such a thing.although they said they dont perfer duct tape but it isn't reason not to accept a parcel. they even asked what kind of gun it was even though i didn't say it was a gun.
