mini 14 ranch rifle question
Fired my new-to-me Ruger Ranch Rifle yesterday for the first time. Accuracy was "acceptable" for my purposes. I noted that the spent cases were being ejected OK but that the case mouths showed differing evidence of trauma. Some were slightly dented, some not dented and some had dents on both sides. Should I be concerned about the lack of consistency or is this normal? I tried for a photo with no success. Thanks!

I recently purchased a mini 14 ranch from my local shop. The question I have is that my 2010 blue book (John Bianchi on front page 1853)says that it has "a folding rear sight, and a ghost aperature rear sight". The gun that I purchased has the ghost ring but no foldable rear sight. I see no place for it to even be, so how can it have a foldable rear sight as well as a ghost ring? It really doesn't matter to me since I got the gun and ammo for a good price, just curious. Thanks.

Are you sure it is a "RANCH" model??? Does it say "RANCH" on the rear of the reciever???? 0 -
The rear sight on the Mini Ranch just folds down so a scope will clear. If the reciever doesn't have scope mount cuts on it, you don't have a Ranch Mini 14. 0 -
"a folding rear sight, and or a ghost aperature rear sight". Fixed it [:D].
What run is it? Perhaps the 2010 models has that option. And the one you picked up was from 2009 or older. Mine 196- series has that flip down peep.0 -
Yes, it does say "ranch" on the top back of the receiver.quote:Originally posted by duckhunter

Why would you trust the Blue Book??

For the most part I don't. I was curious if it was possible to have both, and if so why.quote:Originally posted by cpermd

The old models had the folding sight with the scope mounts. The new models have a better rear peep sight and scope mounts. Serial number on yours probably starts in the 580 range I bet, and has a little bulge in front of the gas block instead of a straight barrel. 0 -
Bingo, 581-78527. Thanks

I have two folding sight ranch rifles and one fixed peep sight version with the 16" bbl and winged front sight as well. Newer peep is better than the older folding style peep, IMO. 0 -
