Armscorps vs. Polytech; who makes a better m14?

My belief is: "It depends." That's because both varied in quality throughout production, & you really need the knowledge of a gunsmith to know what you are looking at.

Armscorp of Baltimore, MD made many excellent complete rifles. All that I have seen had used USGI parts, & were quality rifles. OTOH, they also sold receivers, some of which were so far out of spec that few gunsmiths were willing to do all the work needed to assemble them; without paperwork (or shipping carton), it may be difficult to tell the difference.

It's been 30 years since Poly's were imported into the US. They are currently available to our Canadian friends, & they claim that the quality has improved from those we got. And, everyone acknowledges that they have excellent forged receivers. Most that you see today have had some upgrading, hopefully including replacement of the bolt, trigger group, & sights. Personally, I would never buy a high power rifle sold out of the back of a truck in a dark alley, but that's just me. The Chicoms have never offered a warranty, service, or parts on their rifles, so you pays your money & you takes your chances.

Did Polytech ever switch over to US Mil Spec?

I put US trigger group and operating rod in mine. They work fine. Some parts are different.

Short answer, no. Chinese M14 rifles were imported into the United States from 1988 to 1994. USGI bolt conversion aside, the Chinese receiver will usually require less tweaking than an Armscorp receiver when building the rifle.

    They are both good
I prefer the Chinese for the barrels, receivers and forged one piece op rods.
The stories you hear about the bolts are usually not true.
Just get a set of headspace gauges and check it at each cleaning.
Sometimes fire control parts and=s sights need to be replaced.

The Armscorp rifles with USGI parts are good.

Why would you change FROM a one piece forged op rod??
